There is a strong range of values on this composition that have all 9 shades from white to black. The portrait breaks all values into a flat plane, there is no sense of overlapping shapes of value. The grid is used to place values in the correct locations very well, as the whole portrait is proportional. There is no outline of facial features what so ever. The borders of each value is created by a contrast between its neighboring value. The design is a bit dirty and could be approached with more care. There is a bunch of smudging. It also looks a bit piece-y and could be made to look a bit more flat, but from far away it still looks flat. It is hard to critique when looking so close to it, but from far away it looks close to perfection.
